Long Jing First Flush - 明前龙井茶, is an exceptional green tea, picked in early spring and offering a quality rarely seen outside of China. Our Longjing, also known as West Lake Dragon Well, is the most popular green tea in China. We have carefully selected our tea from Meijiawu, one of the official Longjing villages in the West Lake region. This delicate tea produces a light brew with a smooth and sweet taste that lasts a long time.
Our Longjing consists only of crops with one bud and one leaf or one bud and two leaves. The timing of harvest is crucial, and our farmers start picking as soon as the buds are ripe in early spring. According to a Chinese proverb, “timing is everything,” and starting picking three days early can be the difference between harvesting a treasure or a weed.
The most delicate leaves are picked, and farmers harvest every day or every other day for about 30 days a year, with the best leaves from early spring before the Ming Festival. After harvesting, the leaves are dried in the shade to reduce bitterness. Unlike many other teas, Longjing is not formed by rolling, but through a unique roasting process that includes ten different hand movements that flatten the leaves.
This process is repeated until the water content is reduced to a desired level, making the tea ready for storage or consumption. Discover our rare Long Jing First Flush and enjoy an authentic tea experience from China.
For this tea, we suggest that you try the traditional Chinese Gong FU style to brew your tea. The idea behind this technology is to use greater proportions of tea leaves for water and very short break times. By using more tea leaves and having very short brewing, you only manage to extract parts of the entire taste spectrum. The tea can then be enjoyed in so -called "sections", which gives a much more nuanced experience. As the taste develops gradually and it is much more leaves, this contributes to a much more intense taste than when brewing in Western style.
